Scientific Learning

As part of the Hicksville Public School District’s continuing efforts to improve the academic performance for all students, we have partnered with Scientific Learning to provide a comprehensive, research-based, reading intervention program that uses proven to strengthen brain processing and literacy skills to increase reading proficiency of students.

Scientific Learning products are based on research establishing the fact that boosting the brain’s processing efficiency accelerates quality learning.  It’s called “brain plasticity”, which refers to the brain’s ability to change at any age throughout life.  Scientific Learning uses electronic software products to exercise processing skills through intensive, adaptive activity to create actual physical changes in the brain resulting in changes of ability in learning and reading success.  The program builds foundational reading and language skills while improving memory, attention and processing rates to improve student performance across the curriculum.

Students who are participating in the Scientific Learning product Fast ForWord were identified based on their learning needs.  These students receive 30-minute sessions in addition to the district core instructional reading program.  All identified students were also invited to participate in an extra session taking place prior to the start of the school day.  Scientific Learning instruction takes place in the computer lab and overseen by trained staff.
