SCIENTIFIC LEARNING
AND FAST FORWORD
The Fast ForWord Program, which is made by Scientific Learning, has been successfully implemented at Old Country Road.
The computer-based program is designed to increase memory, attention, processing, and sequencing skills. Students in the program use different computer exercises to strengthen those skills for thirty minutes each day. The students utilize the exercises in the computer lab and are assisted by teachers and teaching assistants as they work on the exercises. Daily reports are printed by classroom teachers in order to monitor student progress and provide the teachers in the lab with information that can be used to plan daily interventions with the students.
Fast ForWord is designed to accelerate the acquisition of knowledge by allowing students to better utilize and organize information that they have been exposed to in class. The program has its origins in the neuroscience research of Dr. Michael Merzenich and Dr.William Jenkins and the language and reading research of Dr. Paula Tallal and Dr. Steven Miller.
