My name is Mrs. Lisa Dawber and I teach second grade at Woodland School in room 105! I teach NYS second grade curriculum, as well as many interdisciplinary units that will enrich and support a lifetime love of learning!
My second grade classroom is a place where self-esteem and self-confidence are promoted. My philosophy is to create a classroom community of learners where we all have a responsibility for learning and working together. My goal is to communicate to EACH child that he/she is AN IMPORTANT INDIVIDUAL and we are part of a team. Cooperation helps to facilitate the best learning environment at school and home!
This year, the students will be working to become better readers and writers using guided reading, writing mini-lessons and a focus on non-fiction articles and books. In math, the students will be working with manipulatives to better understand and apply the concepts taught in class. Addition and subtraction timed tests are given weekly, as well as spelling tests. The students cover many different topics in both science and social studies, in addition to the interdisciplinary units that correspond to these subject areas. In addition, second grade utilizes the Weekly Reader magazine as a fantastic non-fiction teaching tool which supports the science and social studies curriculum in a child-friendly and motivating way!
