    Remembrance of Dr. King

    In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Hicksville third-graders at Dutch Lane Elementary School, under the direction of art teacher Diana Germinario, discussed the late Dr. King's principles and created watercolor posters to illustrate his Six Principles and Six Steps of Nonviolence. They combined words such as "peace," "love," and "tolerance" with symbols of the earth and doves.

  • Learning About Character Through Basketball

    As an enhancement to their character education study, Hicksville students at East Street Elementary School attended an assembly called Basketball's Poetry in Motion with Derek "The Wiz" Murphy. Mr. Murphy, a former Harlem Globetrotter and All-American basketball player at Johnson C. Smith University in North Carolina, spoke to the students about bullying, building character, respect, and confidence in achieving lifetime goals.

    The Hicksville Public School District's nineteen year tradition of hosting a special fall luncheon for local senior citizens continued this year, and was extremely well attended and enjoyed. With the support of administrators and staff, many student groups in the school community at Hicksville High School came together to plan and facilitate the special event. Students in the art department created the eye-catching, fall-themed wall art and centerpieces that adorned each table, and the National Honor Society provided student servers for the honored guests.
