Middle School Social Studies Program

The Hicksville Middle School Social Studies program is designed to help students develop a better understanding of themselves and of the world in which they live

The sixth grade curriculum focuses on the development and achievements of prehistoric people, early civilization, classical civilization and European Middle Ages and the Renaissance. For example, students study the civilizations of Ancient Mesopotamia and make connections to modern day Iraq. Students learn about the many factors that led to the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. Students learn about the history, culture, geography, economics and government of each of these areas of the world from Ancient Greece to the city-states of present day Italy with the goal that our students will become more informed world citizens.

Social studies content in grade seven and eight focuses on a chronologically organized study of United States History and New York State History beginning with a study of Native Americans prior to 1500 to America’s 21st century rise to world leadership.
