The best teachers and students of history have long known that it is the stories that intrigue and involve us in history.To begin to understand the past, we need to understand the people and cultures of the time: how people lived, what they wanted and how individual needs and wants conflicted with those of others. Therefore, students should read widely from nonfiction and fictional sources in an attempt to better understand and appreciate the past.
