At Burns Avenue Elementary School, students are encouraged to take an active role in acquiring the numerous skills that are introduced on each Grade level. Emphasis is placed upon learning through hands-on experiences and interdisciplinary activities which link the curriculum areas and provide the children with an in-depth understanding of our community and the world.

Our diverse student population also enjoys many programs to develop their reading and writing skills and a great deal of emphasis is placed upon the application of skills to situations that require problem solving and critical thinking. Computer technology is integrated into each curriculum area and enrichment programs such as Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Great Books, and Math Olympiads are offered to our students.

The Burns Avenue PTA is also dedicated to supporting the educational program in the school. Each year, they provide Cultural Arts programs for the children and implement evening activities to enhance our students' lives and make parents an integral part of the school.

Burns Avenue Elementary School serves approximately 300 students in grades Kindergarten through Five. We have been proudly educating Hicksville students for the past fifty-one years and take great pride in their many accomplishments.
