First Grade
The first grade will have some wonderful
events happen this fall. The children will experience
presentations from the L.I. Science Center. These
include presentations such as 'Mysterious Forests",
allowing the children to press leaves, a lesson on L.I. Native Americans
and a seed planting activity.

For a field trip, the children will visit the L.I. Fire Museum
in Garden City for “hands-on” fire safety instruction.

During November, special math activities are
planned: pie tasting and graphing their preferences, popcorn estimation
and listening to a Native American legend in preparation
for the Thanksgiving holiday. The students will create
beautiful turkeys with their families to be displayed in
OCR’s hallway.

During the winter season, first graders will
enjoy our traditional “Cookie Buffet.” In January, a
trip is planned to the BroadHollow Theatre to see a
presentation of “Frosty the Snowman.” After the
holidays, we will be working on our spectacular Chinese
New Year celebration! In addition, the L.I. Science
Center will be doing a presentation on animals living in
the winter where they will be making an animal's footprint
mold.
