As the Bejing
Summer Olympics came to a close, our OCR students began
readying themselves for a new school year. Little did
they know that they would soon be preparing for their
own Olympics.

All of the boys
and girls in first to fifth grades are currently
participating in the OCR Olympic Games. During the
first weeks of school, the classes randomly chose their
teams, randomly selected the country that they would
represent, and worked with their new countrymen in
re-creating its flag.

The teams
selected who would represent them in the various
activities making sure that all team members competed in
an equal number of events. There were many individual
and team events to choose from:
Ø
Track and field events including discus, "javelin"
(plastic foam 'arrows'), and shotput
Ø
Cycling, gymnastics, both artistic and rhythmic
Ø
Fencing, "archery", freestyle "swimming", water polo,
crew and kayak races.

To set
everyone's mind at ease, the PE Department did not
exceed its allowable budget by purchasing excessive
equipment and adding a swimming pool to OCR. Rather we
went "outside the box" and added creativity and
imagination to their first trimester curriculum.
