Ways to Improve Reading Comprehension At Home

After reading a story, ask your child the five “W” questions…

·        Who

·        What

·        When

·        Where

·        Why

Ask your child to summarize the story. He/she can tell what happened at the beginning, in the middle and at the end.

Ask which characters they liked or didn’t like and encourage them to    give reasons for their answers.

Talk about how the story could be changed.

Discuss lessons they have learned from the story.
