The first grade students are off to a great start to the New Year! Happy 2009! This month in math, we will continue working on addition facts to 18. We will use many different strategies in order to promote growth and understanding of this concept. In science, we will introduce the children to the unit entitled “Moving and Working”. Within this unit, the students will be participating in experiments dealing with concepts of push and pull, simple machines and magnets. In social studies, we will be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his contributions and achievements to our society. We will also be discussing the Presidential Inauguration of our new president. Please continue to read books of interest with your child each night to enhance their comprehension skills. Your child should now be able to retell what he/she read and identify the story elements. We look forward to another fun and exciting month in first grade!
