          Welcome back to all of our Woodland musicians as we prepare for an exciting month ahead. Our winter concert will take place on January 22nd at 7:00 p.m. All instrumental students should arrive by 6:30 p.m. and chorus students by 6:45 p.m. As mentioned last month, we are asking all students to dress in “concert dress” which is a white shirt and black or dark blue slacks or skirt. Remember, even though it is cold outside, the gym will be very warm so don’t overdress!

We are so pleased to have 7 students representing Woodland at the All-County festival this year. Jamie in fifth grade is our band representative, Gabriella in fifth grade is in the orchestra and Jeanine, Caitlyn, Mathew, Gabriela, and John all in fifth grade are in the chorus. They have been practicing their music and will have to attend three 3-hour long rehearsals to prepare for their concert at the Tilles Center on January 18th. We are so proud of their hard work and accomplishments.

Finally, it is time to send in NYSSMA forms for those children who play piano and for students in the band or orchestra who have been approached by Ms. DelGatto or Ms. Kritzer to play a solo this year. The festival will take place on March 27th and 28th at Westbury High School. The fee for attending is $14.00, payable by check only (no cash) to Hicksville Public Schools. The deadline for returning the forms and the money to Ms. Kritzer or Ms. DelGatto is January 9th . Children who take piano lessons at home may attend a separate NYSSMA festival for piano at the Nassau Community College on March 20th and 21st. The fee for piano is $19.00 and checks and form should also be returned to Ms. Kritzer or Ms. DelGatto by January 9th .
