Students from the Fork Lane class of 2010 returned to their elementary alma mater for the first ever Senior Walk. 40 students graduating from Hicksville High School strolled through the halls where it all began encouraging the present students and embracing their former teachers. When asked what their future goals were the college bound seniors answers ranged from becoming a pharmacist to being on active duty in the United States Air Force. It was a sentimental journey for teachers and students alike.
The Fork Lane school had its annual Talent Show 2017 on Friday June 16, 2017. Many students participated and showed their fellow students their many talents. We had some solo pianists, some dance groups of different sizes, some singing groups and a finale from the combined fifth grades.
Today ,June 15 Thursday , was Crazy Hats / Socks Day here at Fork Lane School for Spirit Week. All the Children wore their craziest and funniest hats and socks to school. Many of the children constructed their own hats and hair styles from whatever they could find around their homes. It was a blast , as the weather cooperated.
The Third Grade Orchestra and Chorus provided the Fork Lane school with a concert of epic proportions. The occasion also served as the fairwell concert for Mrs. Davidowitz , who is retiring this year. We thank her for her many years of musical dedication to the Fork Lane Students. She will be sorely missed.
Books Alive started today at Fork Lane School. The Fork Lane Staff and parents participated in bring to life some of the books presented today. Some of the books , presented in Reader's Theatre format , were : Yo , Aesop , Dooby Dooby Moo , Tikki , Tikki Tembo , The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the BFG.
Fork Lane Field Day 2017 was a rousing success. The day's weather cooperated for a sunny and warm day. The Fork Lane PTA provided refreshments for the children and their families. Some of the events were the Tug of War, Snowball Fight, Capture the Chicken, and field events such as the 40 yard dash and the mile run.
Today May 25,2017, Fork Lane School taped Mr. Scardino to the wall for all the Books they read to raise money to end child poverty and awareness for kids in the U.S. and around the world. The children were amazed at the site of Mr. Scardino , their principal duck taped to the wall for all the money they raised.
Today, Friday, May 19,2017 there was a face painting assembly. This allowed the Fork Lane students to have their faces painted. It was a lot of fun seeing different children's faces painted scary and funny colors.
Christopher M. Hudson entered and won a medal at the Gregory Museum Science Fair. His project was about which storage filler was best for shipping purposes. Christopher proved that Styrofoam Peanuts were the best filler to ship packages. He received a medal for his project. Congratulations Christopher M. Hudson !
Fork Lane teachers gave a sterling performance of the lipsynced version of "Surfin' USA" by the Beach Boys at the Talent for Troops show. The efforts of these performers and those from all the other schools helped to raise $14,000.00 for our heros in the military. Thank you to: Chris Mammone. On Friday April 7, The 5th Grade Champions and All Star team played the Fork Lane Staff games of volleyball to see who was best. The fifth grade champion team put up a valiant effort but the teachers won the first game 31-24 !! The school was cheering for both teams as they fought hard for their points.It was a great way to get an early start on our Spring Vacation !
Thanks to Mrs. Hudson of the Fork Lane PTA, we had the pleasure of meeting Kevin (K-ROB) Robinson at today's assembly. Mr. Robinson not only entertained us with tales from his life experiences, he also shared with us the character traits and BXM tricks that helped him become a success.
Parents of 4th graders were delighted to see the spectacular wax museum presented by Mrs. Coley's and Mrs. Abbatiello's classes. Characters ranged from Inventors to Politicians, Musicians to Martial Arts personalities, Sports figures to Fashion designers and Royalty. We were particularly honored by the presence of Dr. Bonuso, our Superintendent. The students put a great deal of time and effort in creating their characters.
The Singing Bus Driver , Joe Guida, brought his learning and safety songs to Fork Lane school on Friday March 3,2017.The children from the kindergarten and first grades enjoyed dancing and singing to all the activities that the Singing Bus Driver performed.
The response to our annual SOUPER BOWL drive for the Boys and Girls club was great. Donations were made based on which team a donor thought would win the Super Bowl. Regardless of the final score, everyone turn out to be a winner!
Today,January 17, 2017, we got a chance to catch up to our own Mr. Scardino as he read a book to the second grade class of Mrs. Marschean. It was quite facinatting to see the children participate in a classroom type of environment with Mr. Scardino as he read a book to them. Mr., Scardino asked about the author and illustrator and got the children's appetite flowing towards the book .
The 5th grade field trip to the Broadway production of the SCHOOL OF ROCK was fantastic! Parent, teacher and student were amazed at the talented children performing on stage. Everyone got into the act!
The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade band, orchestra and chorus wowed the audience of family and friends with a variety of musical selections representing winter
The Fork Lane Family ended Spirit Week by wearing school colors and showing the spirit that makes our school great. A big thumbs up to the PTA for sponsoring this event.
As a kindergarten teacher, Valerie Pfundstein discovered there were no books about Veterans. So she did the next best thing - she wrote one herself. Her book, Veterans: Heroes in our Neighborhood, was presented at today's assembly honoring our Vets.
The Fork Lane School attended an assembly entitled "7 Habits of Happy Kids". The presentation was prepared by the SBT students and teachers. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Koerner who brought the book to life for us.
Sidney the Fish is our ambassador for positive character traits. Students can earn a fish by exhibiting positive behaviors. On Fridays, students can earn double fish stickers. The class with the most stickers gets to keep the real Sidney the Fish for a week in their classroom.
