Ms. Hoover and Ms. Giovagnoni collaborated on a project in their sixth grade health classes. As students worked within a unit on self-esteem, they engaged in a project called I’MPORTANT.
As part of the project, each sixth grade student was asked to :
Write a personal essay
Research a famous person who they admire
Find a quote that they can identify with
Identify and describe personal positive attributes
The goal of the activity was to have students realize that they are important, that their choices matter, and that they can achieve anything in their life and can have a positive influence on others. Students created a mini poster with their picture and information from their writing and their research. This activity was a great way to bring closure to the self- esteem unit. It reinforced student strengths and promoted higher self- esteem.
