Fourth Grader Wins the Burns Avenue Spelling Bee

On Friday, January 6th, twenty-five students in Grade 4 and Grade 5 participated in the annual Burns Avenue Spelling Bee.  The students had been chosen based upon their performance in classroom competitions that had previously taken place.  The purpose of the Spelling Bee was to determine which student would move on to the Nassau County Spelling Bee, which will be held in Hofstra University on Sunday, February 5th.  The winner of that competition will then participate in the National Spelling Bee which is held in Washington, D.C. in May.

After many rounds of the bee, Louis, a Fourth Grade student, and Lukas, a Fifth Grade student, were the final two competitors.  They then proceeded to correctly spell some difficult words. Louis eventually won the Spelling Bee when he correctly spelled a word that Lukas misspelled and correctly spelled an additional word.  Congratulations to Louis and all of the students who participated in the competition.
