The officers of the National Junior Honor Society, along with their advisor, Ms. Smith, donated the proceeds of several fundraising initiatives to Autism Speaks. Mr. Russo, the Senior Coordinator of Field Development for the Long Island Chapter of Autism Speaks, accepted the donation for $2750 during a recent visit to the middle school.
Congratulations to middle school students, Julia, Kelly, Suha, Waris, Archana, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Masidatha, and Sean, and their teachers, Ms. Gottlieb, Ms. Ryan, Ms. Powell, and Ms. Biedenbach. The students had their work displayed at the All-County Art Exhibition that was hosted at Farmingdale State College.
The sixth grade Hicksville Middle School Math Olympiad Team competed at the Nassau County Association of Math Supervisors Nassau County Math Tournament hosted by SUNY Old Westbury. While the team put forth an admirable effort, Eric shined brightly when he individually earned 5th place out of 255 competitors while his teammates, Sara, Michael, Daniel, and Amy cheered him on in the competition. Congratulations to the team Eric, Sara, Michael, Daniel, and Amy, and their advisor and coach, Ms. Massa.
The Hicksville Middle School Concerts were performed on May 8, 11, and 17th in the Hicksville High School Auditorium. Students had the opportunity to demonstrate their amazing growth from their Winter Concerts in December. Many of the selections contained creative components, accompaniments, and solos that added additional depth to the performances.
Sincerest appreciation to the Hicksville Middle School PTSA for their week long staff appreciation activities and surprises. Each day of the week they had a new treat for the HMS staff to enjoy. The week ended with a buffet of deserts and beverages that ranged from fresh fruit to an amazing assortment of pies, cakes, and cookies.
Hicksville Middle School students competed at the Long Island Math Fair held at Hofstra University. Congratulations to Silver medalist Sean and Sam, and Bronze medalists Navpreet, Jaskaran, Aniket, and Aryan. Great appreciation is extended to Ms. Berrios and Ms. Holland for participating as judges and for mentoring our students.
Members of Student Council along with their advisors, Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Presti, decorated the front lawn of the middle school as a way to recognize those who have died while serving our country. It was another way to recognize the sacrifices that were made by our men in arms to preserve the freedoms that we enjoy each and every day.
The middle school proudly presented the annual Piano Recital in Ap. Students in grades six through eight performed classical to contemporary pieces. Congratulations to Mr. Nadler, Ms. Calleo and their students for a job well done. The students of Ms. Ryan, Ms. Gottlieb, and Ms. Powell, and Ms. Biedenbach also had the opportunity to display their artwork at the recital.
Eighth grade Studio in Art students enjoyed visiting the Parrish Museum of Art in Water Mill on May 12th. Students learned about the prominent collection of works from influential Long Island artists, as well as artwork spanning the US and abroad, focusing on the use of many different approaches and materials to making art.
One hundred and twenty students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at a candle lit ceremony that was held at the Bernard H. Braun Auditorium at the middle school on Monday, April 24th. Dr. Bonuso addressed the inductees, who were administered the pledge of the Verisage Chapter by Ms. Jorisch.
Congratulations to the Hicksville Middle School Mock Trial Team under the supervision of Ms. Dowling-Lewis and Mr. Branigan, who competed at the Western Suffolk BOCES Mock Trial Tournament at Suffolk Community College in Selden NY on Friday, April 21, 2017. Twenty-seven districts from Long island competed in this prestigious tournament.
