Music Honor Society

Fine Arts Honor Societies

Within the Fine Arts Department there are three nationally recognized honor societies. They are the National Art Honor Society, the Modern Music Masters (also known as Tri-M), and the International Thespian Society.

Criteria for Membership in Modern Music Masters Honor Society (a pision of MENC/NAFME)

The Tri-M Honor Society is a National organization dedicated to the performance and study of music. The following guidelines are set out by NAFME:

1 - Students must display musical ability and scholarship in music and academics. An 80 average in academic classes and a 90 average in music classes are required to maintain membership. Students must perform a Level 5 or 6 NYSSMA solo for the music faculty for admittance.

2 - Students must show cooperation with teachers and peers.

3 - Leadership and service are basic requirements. As a member, students are required to attend and perform at monthly meetings and scheduled recitals and to assist at music department events.

4 - Students in Grades 10-12 may apply.

5 - Students must be a member of a major performing group. If a student is unable to play in a performing group (because of scheduling or they play piano), they are evaluated on a case by case basis. Students are encouraged to make an effort to be in orchestra, band or choir.

Students should consult with the chapter advisor for further details on how to become a member of one of these distinguished honor societies. Hicksville High School chapter advisors are as follows:

  • National Art Honor Society - Angela Galante (High School Art Teacher)
  • Modern Music Masters - Amy Noll (High School Orchestra Teacher)
  • Thespians - Caitlin Cassidy (High School Theatre/English Teacher)

The induction ceremony for the 2011-2012 school year will take place on Monday, March 19, 2012 in the High School Auditorium.
