Hicksville High School and Middle School Home & Careers teachers are making every effort to ensure that our students are learning about nutrition and healthy life styles. Both at the Middle School and the High School, students learn how the United States Dietary Guidelines can help them become better students and athletes as well as give them a healthier future. Reading nutrition and food labels, modifying recipes, planning healthy meals and learning healthful cooking techniques are all activities students are engaged in. Students are given the opportunity to analyze their diets and make plans for improvement.

Another goal of the department is to educate students on career choices. Students learn how to write a cover letter and resume as well as how to sharpen their interview skills. Both at the Middle School and the High School, students research careers based on their personal interest and strengths. The ultimate goal of our program is to prepare students for a healthy and productive life.
