
On January 21, 2023, our three teams (Meteorites, Meteorites Squared, and Meteorites Cubed) represented Hicksville Middle School at the FIRST Lego League Qualifier #1 at Mineola High School. The teams displayed and operated their robots and presented their posters, binders, and 3D models, which demonstrated the cumulative effects of their collaborative efforts over the past four months. All three teams placed in the top 10 for the robot runs at the competition. Twenty-nine teams competed at the event.
Overall, the Hicksville Middle School teams had a great time helping each other throughout the season and during competition. It was truly a memorable experience and the teams are excited for the next step. All three teams successfully move forward to the Long Island Championship, which will be held at Hicksville High School on Sunday, March 5, 2023.
Team 23785 Meteorites Squared was awarded the Innovation Project award.
This team utilized diverse resources for their Innovation Project which helped them gain a comprehensive understanding of their problem, have a creative, well-researched solution and effectively communicate their findings to judges and the community. They won the award for their project on solar cars.
Team 45172 Meteorites Cubed was awarded the Robot Design Award
This team used outstanding programming principles and solid engineering practices to develop a robot that was mechanically sound, durable, efficient and highly capable of performing challenge missions. Their unique Jeopardy style robot presentation helped the team to win this award.
Team 16174 Meteorites was awarded the Champion’s Award for Qualifying Tournament #1
This award celebrates a team that embodies the FIRST ® LEGO® League Challenge experience, by fully embracing our Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in Robot Performance, Robot Design and the Innovation Project T.O.R.A. (Wind Turbine on Residential homes).
