HS writing students recognized at Board Meeting

Hicksville High School students Beau Flay, Marion Rai and Katelyn Suarez were recognized at the Feb. 15 Board of Education meeting for earning Regional Awards from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards through the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. Marion Rai earned two Gold Key Awards for the poetry submissions titled “an elegy to understand (me), mother” and “The Art of Blending In.” Katelyn Suarez was honored with a Silver Key Award for the short story titled “Smile” and Beau Flay garnered an Honorable Mention for the poem “Sour 16.”

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923 and exist to inspire and celebrate creative teens throughout the country.

Congratulations to Beau, Marion, Katelyn and their English teacher Eva Shtein on this noteworthy accomplishment.
