Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. We are navigating through challenging landscapes and redefining routines we have enjoyed for generations. This correspondence will outline changes you and your child(ren) may experience in Hicksville’s Food Service Program.

Recent federal and state decisions now allow the District to temporarily serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students 18 years of age and younger until June 30, 2021. This decision is subject to change at the federal government’s discretion. The district still requires households to complete applications for free and reduced meals as usual and return them as soon as possible. Participation in the Free & Reduced Lunch Program not only provides students nutritious meals, it also helps the District by generating additional sources of revenue through increased State Aid and Federal Grants

Ala carte items (for example water, chips) are not part of the USDA program. Students cannot purchase ala carte food unless there are funds on their Scholarchip account. We encourage you to deposit funds online to limit the exchange of money and facilitate student traffic in the cafeteria. Please see the District’s website for instructions on how to use the Scholarchip program.

Breakfast in the elementary schools will be served upon arrival. Students may go to their cafeteria where they can “grab” a bagged breakfast and “go” to their classroom where they will have time to eat. Students will order their lunch meals through the teacher in their respective classrooms. Students will return to the cafeteria to “grab” their bagged lunch and “go” to their classroom where they will have time to eat. This distribution method will ensure compliance with social distancing requirements.

Students at the secondary level will have an opportunity to eat a (socially distanced) breakfast and lunch in their respective cafeterias.

FOOD SERVICE FOR REMOTE STUDENTS:

Middle and High School hybrid students may pick up 3 days of breakfast and lunch in their respective cafeterias from 2:20 – 3:00 for the days they are on remote instruction (Monday-Tuesday in-person students can pick up breakfast and lunch on Tuesday between 2:20-3:00 for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday; Thursday-Friday in-person students can pick up breakfast and lunch on Friday between 2:20 and 3:00 for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday).

Parents and Guardians can pick up breakfast and lunch for remote students (elementary and secondary) at the Middle School, 2nd Street parking lot Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 10:00 am.
