On June 20, Hicksville High School proudly celebrated the graduating Class of 2025 with a heartfelt commencement ceremony held on the school’s athletic field. As the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” played, family and friends cheered, creating a festive and emotional atmosphere.
The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the performance of the national anthem sung by senior Alyson Kingsley and interpreted in American Sign Language by senior John Ryan Chaplin. Principal Raymond Williams then took the podium to warmly welcome the graduates, expressing peace, gratitude and admiration for their achievements.
In his address, Principal Williams applauded the Class of 2025 for their determination, academic strength, and the decisions that brought them to this moment. He highlighted the school’s rich multicultural environment and encouraged students to embrace their individuality, celebrate their diverse backgrounds, and strive to make a meaningful impact on the world. “Dream boldly and dream big,” he concluded, thanking students for being part of an extraordinary journey.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Theodore Fulton also offered his congratulations, recognizing the students’ wide-ranging involvement in academics, the arts, athletics, service, and leadership. He emphasized the importance of remaining open to new experiences and reminded graduates that many great discoveries like penicillin, the slinky, and chocolate chip cookies were born from unexpected moments. “Embrace what makes you unique, hold true to who you are, and follow your dreams,” he advised.
This year’s commencement also featured remarks from Board of Education President Annette Beiner and special guest James A. McKinstry, Hicksville’s 2025 Hall of Fame inductee. Valedictorian Kailash Thayavally delivered a moving speech reflecting on the power of gratitude and the influence of those who support us. He encouraged his classmates to pursue their passions, show love, and find purpose in life. Quoting Winnie the Pooh, he reminded them, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
Salutatorian Mandeep Kaur spoke about the value of perseverance and the support she received from her family. She encouraged her fellow graduates to maintain positivity and kindness as they embark on their next chapter. Student Government President Aesha Shah also addressed the class, reflecting on the shared memories and experiences that shaped their time at Hicksville High School.
The ceremony culminated with the presentation of diplomas. One by one, graduates
walked across the stage to cheers and applause, marking the close of one chapter and the
beginning of another for Hicksville’s Class of 2025.
