The Public Information Office visited the Old Country Road Elementary School on October 8th to meet a special 2nd grade student, Ainsley McGuire, who’s teacher is Ms. Jennifer McEvoy. After Ms. McEvoy read aloud the Reddy Freddy book, Kindness Counts!, by Abby Klein. It was this book that inspired Ainsley McGuire to start her own kindness chain similar to the one depicted in story. Kindness Counts! tells the story of Freddy, and he is assigned to do a special good deed for the biggest bully in the second grade during Random Acts of Kindness week at his school, so he makes a kindness chain. Ainsley explained, “you pick a name to go first and do something kind to the next person’s name picked”. Each student was able to pick a name and conduct a kind act towards him or her as was done for them. The classmates’ names are proudly displayed in the hallway at Old Country Road Elementary in a kindness chain. These random acts of kindness were so well received that Ms. Laura McConnell, principal of Old Country Road Elementary, has decided expand the kindness train to all classrooms in the building. Kindness is contagious!
