East Street Elementary School in Hicksville held its kindness kickoff to start the Olweus Bullying Prevention program on Nov. 12. This year’s theme for the program is “Let’s color our school with kindness.”
On kickoff day, East Street students across all grade levels cut out papers hands to give to their classmates when they’re caught doing an act of kindness. The student then writes their name on the paper hand to be put on display on a bulletin board in the building.
The Olewus Bullying Prevention program is focused on creating a safe and positive school environment by improving peer relations. Each month, students will participate in a special kindness classroom activity as part of the program.

Kindergartener Dayana Menjivar is seen putting the “I” in kind.
