Congratulations to Omika Samlall, a senior at Hicksville High School, who has been chosen to participate in the virtual Students Inside Albany government educational conference on May 21 & 22, 2021 sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Omika will represent the East Nassau chapter of the League of Women Voters. Omika will participate virtually with high school students from across the state to learn about New York State government and the process by which citizens can participate in the policy-making arena. The program will begin with a presentation on New York Youth Civics Initiatives. Students will then learn about NYS government. Other topics during the two day conference will include: zoom media panel on How the Media Influences Public Policy and Why Voting Matters. Students will attend a legislative session and then will be assigned to break out rooms with legislators from their own district. The goal of the Students Inside Albany government educational conference is to inspire Omika and other students to become more aware of citizens' responsibility in representative government.
