Posted on 09/03/2019

On Tuesday, September 3rd, the entire staff of Hicksville Public Schools met at the high school for a full day of pre-opening workshops and training in preparation for the new school year.

Superintendent of Schools Marianne Litzman kicked off Superintendent’s Conference Day in the gymnasium with a bright smile and warm welcome to the district’s teachers, teaching assistants, monitors and greeters, clerical and school support staff, and administrators.

Sharing the district’s mission, vision, and goals from its 5-year strategic plan was Board President Mr. Phil Heckler. New staff for the 2019-2020 school year were introduced by Assistant Superintendent Ms. Rosemarie Coletti.

Mr. Steve Chassman, Executive Director of LICADD, presented the Keynote Address to the 700+ in attendance. He stressed the important role educators and school support staff play in the mental health of students in today’s 24/7/365 digital world, citing the unprecedented rise of anxiety and depressive disorders in teenagers. He concluded with a focus on coping strategies including mindfulness, self-expression, staying active, and open communication.

Superintendent Litzman closed the orientation with a photo overview of the Bond construction taking place across the district, asking everyone for patience as a new and better HPS takes shape around them.

Mrs. Litzman officially opened the new year by ringing an original one-room schoolhouse brass bell her mother rang as a young student.

Everyone at Hicksville Public Schools wishes our students much success as they embark on the 2019-2020 school year!
