As you are aware, Superintendent Litzman has announced her plan to retire. In accepting Superintendent Marianne Litzman’s resignation effective June 30, 2023, the Board extends our best wishes to Mrs. Litzman for a healthy and happy retirement with her family and friends. We wish her all the best in this next chapter of her journey!

We thank Mrs. Litzman for her service to the Hicksville Union Free School District during her 35-year career in Hicksville as a teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, and Instruction and currently as our Superintendent. Lee Iacocca once said, ‘The key to success is learning everything about your organization from the mailroom up.’ There is no better example personified of that than Superintendent Marianne Litzman. She is a true educational expert.

In these months of transitioning to new leadership, the Board has and will strive to ensure the safety of students and staff, closing the learning gap, advancing college and career readiness, and addressing the social and emotional needs of students, staff, and families, all embedded within the district’s strategic goals. With the passage of the 2022-2023 budget, additional resources were allocated to address these priorities, with the objective of making certain that our students continue to receive a high-quality education to equip them for the demands of the 21 st century. This focus will continue as move forward in early 2023 to develop our 2023-2024 budget.

As we wish Superintendent Litzman a happy and healthy retirement, the Hicksville School Board has begun its search for the next Superintendent of Schools with the guidance of professionals from an experienced school executive search firm. The profile for the superintendent position is being developed collaboratively with the involvement of community, faculty, and district stakeholder representatives, to ensure the continuation of the strong, established tradition of high-quality education for all students.

Along with the opportunities for community input, the Board will provide regular updates at Board meetings, as well as on the district website. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Board of Education!
