  • Internet and Social Media Safety Assembly

    Nassau County Assistant District Attorney Brian Heid presented a “S.T.O.P. then Send” Assembly to the students of Hicksville Middle school in November. The acronym S.T.O.P. stands for “Study the content,” “Think about others,” “Only send if appropriate” and “Pictures are forever.” Students attended annual grade level assemblies that focused on student awareness of issues and consequences concerning cyberbullying, the use of social media, sexting and inappropriate electronic communication.

  • Pledging To Be Kind 2017

    A Hicksville Middle School tradition continues with a new twist this year with the combined efforts of health teacher, Mr. Tussie, and the creative input of art teacher, Mrs. Powell and her students. This year’s kindness initiative is in full bloom. Students and staff pledged to show and treat others with kindness by attaching signed leaves to the kindness tree. A Kindness Tree is a way to focus on and acknowledge the importance of showing kindness within a school. The tree helps foster kind, supportive relationships among students and teachers.

  • Helping Others

    Student Council conducted a food drive to help local families in need. Food was collected during October and November and was delivered to several Hicksville Middle School families just in time for Thanksgiving. Officers and members of Student Council, along with their advisors Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Presti, organized and packed the generous donations. Many thanks are sent to all who donated.

  • BOE Recognition Ceremony

    BOE Recognition Ceremony Eighth grade Hicksville Middle School student and National Junior Honor Society President, Kayla, participated in a ceremony to recognize the Board of Education on October 25th. Kayla had the opportunity to address and thank the members of the Board of Education during the ceremony.

  • Veteran's Day Commemoration

    Members of the middle school Student Council, along with their advisors Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Presti, created a display of four hundred flags that were placed on the perimeter of the walkways of the front lawn of the middle school.

  • Halloween Dance 2017

    Hicksville Middle School students participated in an evening of fun at our annual Halloween Dance on Friday, October 27th. There was face painting, a Halloween costume contest, and lots of dancing.

  • Student Government Elections 2017

    More than thirty students ran for five elected offices in student government. Congratulations to all of our candidates, who presented their speeches to students in grades 6-8 at three different assemblies.

  • HOMECOMING 2017

    Hicksville Middle School students proudly participated in Homecoming on October 14th. In addition to the middle school cheerleaders who cheered alongside their high school counterparts, the following clubs and organizations participated in homecoming as well: National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Astronomy Club, Multicultural Club, and Robotics. Middle school students and their families had a fun time at the carnival and at the game.

  • Hicksville Middle School October PBIS 2017-2018

    Middle school students from grades 6 through 8 were recognized for their nominations to the Heart + Motivation= Success board which can be found in the “Hall of Recognition” near the main lobby. Students received special recognition in a school-wide announcement, had their picture taken, and were given a special HMS bracelet commemorating their achievements.

  • Getting to Know You Dance 2017

    Middle school students and their family members attended the “Getting to Know You” Dance on Friday, September 15th. Students had the chance to meet new friends, dance in the gymnasium, and enjoy refreshments and snacks during the middle school’s first dance of the new school year. A fun time was had by all who attended.

    Back-to-School Night was held at the middle school on Tuesday, September 19th. Special thanks to Mrs. Smith and the members of the National Junior Honor Society, who did an amazing job assisting parents as they navigated through the hallways of the middle school.

    On Saturday, September 16th, forty members of the Hicksville Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society volunteered at the annual Oyster Bay Harbor Cleanup Day.

    In addition to the van service (small bus) presently being provided, we have 16 additional large private and parochial bus routes being restored on Monday, November 27. Please check the links and listings below.

    As previously reported, resumption of full bus service is expected by the beginning of the week of December 4. We, of course, will keep you posted via Robo calls and website updates. Extended hours of school operation will remain in place until the full restoration of bus service.

    Please be reminded that the Hicksville Public Schools will be closed this Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24th. As always, thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation. Best wishes for a safe and happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from the Hicksville School Family.

    At its regular public meeting last night, the Hicksville Board of Education took action to restore bus transportation service to its students. The Board approved assignment of its transportation contract to Educational Bus Transportation (EBT), effective Monday, November 20, 2017. The District anticipates that full bus services will be restored by Monday, December 4, 2017.

    Information about restoration of specific routes during this transition period will be communicated through robocalls and posted on the District website. The District will continue to offer extended hours of operation until full bus services are restored.
