BOE Honors Two High-Achieving Athletes

At their March meeting, the Hicksville Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Marianne Litzman honored two of Hicksville High School’s fine student-athletes for their accomplishments during the winter season.

Junior Ethan Dong was honored for advancing to the New York State Championships for the 100-meter breaststroke. Ethan is the first male swimmer to represent the high school at states since 1988. This year he set school records in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley, records that stood for 31 and 34 years, respectively. Ethan was also named Conference Swimmer of the Year, receiving All-Conference honors in the 200-meter medley and the 200-meter and 400-meter free relays, as well as All-Conference/All-Division in the 100-meter free and 100-meter competitions.

Sophomore wrestler Guillermo Reyes competed in the New York State Championship for the 113-pound weight class. Guillermo is the first Hicksville wrestler to qualify for states since 2000. He placed second in Nassau County and first in all tournaments this year. Guillermo achieved the second-most wins for a single season in school history, finishing with a record of 38-6. He was named the team’s most valuable player.

Congratulations to Ethan and Guillermo on their outstanding seasons!
