As part of the Hicksville High School guidance department’s mission to provide students with an interdisciplinary approach to college and career readiness, a very special visit was made by Mr. Mitchell Klipper, CEO of Barnes and Noble’s retail group.  Mr. Klipper was introduced by Ms. Rafaelides, Chairperson of Guidance Services, Ms. Hannon, Guidance Counselor and by Hicksville High School senior, Marissa Schiavone, who is also Mr. Klipper’s niece. Approximately 350 students were treated to Mr. Klipper’s inspirational message of hard work, dedication and perseverance, which brought him so much success and fulfillment over the years.

Mr. Klipper recounted his years as a student, from Syosset High School to Nassau Community College and the University of Buffalo and highlighted many of his amazing experiences, which brought him to the very top of his field.  According to Mr. Klipper, success does come at a price, which at times required him to be apart from his four sons and wife of 28 years, Rosemarie, who graduated from Hicksville High School with the class of 1977.

Much to the excitement of those in attendance, Mr. Klipper closed the program by graciously providing ten lucky students with brand new Nook e-readers. Students who asked and answered questions were selected to receive these popular devices.  Hicksville High School wishes to thank Mr. Klipper for taking the time out of his busy schedule to provide our students with an unforgettable experience, which will further enhance efforts to prepare students for our globally competitive world.
