UPDATES
Athletics - Salina South Middle School

"Our chief interest should not lie in the great champions in sport.
On the contrary, our concern should be first of all to widen the base, the foundation in athletic sports: to encourage in every way a healthy rivalry which shall give to the largest possible number of students the chance to take part in vigorous outdoor games."

-Theodore Roosevelt

JV BOYS SOCCER 10-1-1
Teamwork was the key to our success this season. Everyone worked together, communicated effectively, and played off each other's strengths. It was incredible to see how we all came together as a team. The effort put in by each player was outstanding. Everyone gave their all on the field, and it really showed in our performance. Hard work and dedication paid off for our team! The great team morale played a huge role in our success. Everyone's positive energy and support for each other made a difference on and off the field. Our 10-1-1 record was well deserved.

FOOTBALL - VARSITY & JV
The Comets had a tough but competitive season this year- even playing in the rain for 6 Weeks! With a challenging schedule our players fought hard every snap. No matter the challenge they stepped up and gave 100% all the time. Although the result wasnt wanted these players should be proud of themselves because of how the season molded them into disciplined young men who now fully understand how important it is to always work hard and to work together with a great attitude.  Varsity finished 2-6 which was an improvement from 2022.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

The Varsity Boys Volleyball team had a much-improved season this year.  The team went 7-9 and won 5 more matches then in the previous season, in a higher conference- even after graduating 5 seniors that were starters on the team last year.  Led by senior Rohan Shah the Comets competed hard in every match this year and saw tremendous growth as a team.  Even though 7 seniors are graduating, the Comets are looking to come back strong next year and have a number of returning players, led by All Conference Libero, Asher Joo.
Boys JV Volleyball record was 11-5. We had a strong season due to the hard work put in by the players. Jasraj Sidhu had some great serves and kills, while Ishaan Luthra contributed with great sets.  Very proud of the team.

MS GIRLS SWIMMING:
Although the girls MS swim team only won 3 meets out of 10 meets the girls had a great season.  We only had a few returning swimmers from last year.  Every single swimmer improved dramatically.  The girls have enjoyed seeing their times drop from the first meet to the final meet.  Many swam events they never thought they were capable of, but with much hard work and trust they were able to accomplish some amazing swims.  One swimmer specifically came to tryouts barely able to swim a lap.  By the end of the season and a lot of hard work she had the second fastest 50 free time and the second fastest 100 free for our team.  The MS girls swim team had a very successful swim season and we are all looking forward to next year!

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Girls Varsity Volleyball finished 9-7!  The season was very successful. We were very competitive within our conference and are looking forward to the future. The girls also participated in the Beautiful Me program.
JV GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: had a very successful and competitive season.  We played new teams this year that led to competitive and equally matched games.  The girls made great progress in their volleyball knowledge, skills, techniques, and learned to work as a team.  The girls also participated in the Beautiful Me program.  Final record was 11-5.

CHEERLEADING
JV & Varsity Cheer- The 2023 cheerleading season for our JV and Varsity squads has truly been a remarkable journey.  This is the largest team that we believe Hicksville has ever had (44 Cheerleaders).  We had 55 tried out for the team. This season, our talented group of cheerleaders came together in perfect harmony, and their collective efforts have yielded spectacular results that have left a lasting impression both on and off the field. They showcased exceptional skills and unwavering commitment to teamwork.  Unfortunately, the torrential rain every weekend except for two made it very difficult to perform.  We hope for sunshine next fall!
