Students place third in Medical Marvels program

Hicksville High School Introduction to Social Science Research students Adiyat Hussain, Shreya Jacob, Kylie McLaughlin, Ava Middleton and Aanya Rawal recently placed third in Medical Marvels, a collaborative research competition for students in ninth and tenth grades, hosted by Northwell Health, the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and the Center for Workforce Readiness. These students are taught under the guidance of Dr. Stephanie Piscitelli.

HS students in the Long Island Youth Summit

Hicksville High School Introduction to Social Science Research students Ava Middleton and Aanya Rawal were recently named winners in the Long Island Youth Summit. Additionally, Sadaf Farid Ahmad, Adiyat Hussain, Shreya Jacob and Kylie McLaughlin were named finalists for this year’s event. All the students are taught under the guidance of Dr. Stephanie Piscitelli.

Woodland crowns “The Smart Cookie” the winner

A schoolwide Tournament of Books event at Hicksville’s Woodland Elementary recently ended with Jory John and Pete Oswald’s “The Smart Cookie” narrowly edging out Diane Alber’s “I’m Not Just a Scribble.”

Annual LIA Conference Contest Winners

Our Latinos in Action (LIA) students attended the Annual LIA Conference at Paier College in Bridgeport, Connecticut on April 20, 2023. One hundred of our LIA students from Hicksville Middle School and Hicksville High School attended the conference where they received leadership workshops and competed in Fine Arts and Writing contests.

Jasmine Roland is a senior at Hicksville High School who took it upon herself to host free American Sign Language classes at Hicksville Public Library for young children and parents. Jasmine has been taking American Sign Language since 7th grade and has become an astonishing signer.

Congratulations to Brandon Baade and Samantha Mason, two talented musicians at Hicksville High School, for being selected to participate in the prestigious NAfME All-Eastern Music ensemble. This ensemble, made up of the top high school musicians from across the northeastern United States, will be performing at the annual conference of the National Association for Music Education in [Rochester, NY], in April.

HMS Celebrates Our Cultural Diversity
01/30/2023
As a way to celebrate the diversity of Hicksville Middle School’s students and staff, the Multicultural Club are hosting a World’s Fair, throughout the week of January 23 - January 27 during all lunch periods. The goal of the World’s Fair is to provide students with the opportunity to learn about the culture and customs of 50 different countries represented by our students and staff. Additional information regarding each country/region has been posted in the Middle School Happenings Google Classroom for students to access. At the conclusion of the fair, students will participate in a game of Kahoot during Advisory on Monday, January 30.

All-County Music Festival Participants

Fifty-four fifth graders from Hicksville elementary schools recently performed at The Division 1 East All-County Music Festival held at The Tilles Center in Brookville on Jan. 8. The event, hosted by Nassau Music Educators Music Association, was an opportunity for select music students who participate in their school’s band, orchestra or chorus to be rewarded for their individual success on their instrument or voice.

Kindergarten students host Writer’s Workshop

Kindergarten students at Old Country Road Elementary School in Hicksville hosted a Writers' Workshop on Jan. 6 featuring their knowledge of the “Star Writer Unit.” Through this unit, students learned letters and sounds which they put together to make words and then sentences.

NYSSMA All-State and LI Scholar Artist

At the Dec. 14 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Hicksville High School senior Brandon Baade was recognized for attending the NYSSMA All-State Festival held in Rochester, New York on December 1 through 4 and for being recognized as a Long Island Scholar-Artist through The Long Island Arts Alliance.

NYSSMA Semi-Finalists Recognized

Students are chosen based upon the results of their participation in the NYSSMA Solo Festival the previous Spring.  To be considered for a spot in an All-State ensemble, students must perform an All-State solo.  This is a NYSSMA Level 6 solo that includes additional requirements to be considered for All-State.

HMS Digital Newsletter

The HMS Digital Literacy Club has published its first newsletter. The students, along with their advisors Ms. Lasurdo and Ms. Blayne, are very excited to share it with their school and the community. Many of the student contributors are also enrolled in our new creative writing course, Express Yourself.

Fork Lane wowed by BMX bike show
11/11/2022
Fork Lane Elementary students and staff in Hicksville were wowed on November 3 by a bicycle stunt show held on the school’s basketball court. The BMX stunt show known as The Freestyle Connection promoted bicycle safety, healthy living choices, accomplishing goals and character education and held the attention of all for close to an hour at the recent assembly.

Hicksville High School Homecoming 2022

Hicksville High School’s field was buzzing with school spirit as students, staff and the community came together to celebrate homecoming on October 8. Prior to the start of the game, the school hosted its annual Homecoming Fair. Activities, games, spirit wear, gift basket raffles, food and refreshments were offered at various tables, which were operated by students, parents and school community organizations. Local children were also able to play on the inflatable slides and bouncy houses.

Hicksville High School students Brandon Baade, Samantha Mason and Nisarg Shah have been selected to perform at NYSSMA All-State. Baade and Mason were selected for Symphonic Band, while Shah was selected as an alternate for Jazz Ensemble.

HS student selected as Scholar-Artist in music

Hicksville High School student Brandon Baade was recently named a Scholar-Artist as part of the Long Island Arts Alliance program in conjunction with Newsday. Baade was one of only 40 high school seniors named top on Long Island in the areas of music, theater, dance, visual and media arts. The Hicksville senior was selected in the music category for this year’s class of 2023 Scholar-Artist recognition.

Hicksville Schools recipient of local backpacks

Hicksville Public Schools was the recipient of 72 backpacks and school supplies from donations collected through the Rotary Club of Hicksville South. The presentation of backpacks and school supplies took place at the organization’s closing ceremony of the “Bright Beginnings” 2022 Backpack Project on August 31st. The program was supported by community leaders, representatives of community organizations and Rotary leadership.
