Hicksville Middle School sixth graders enrolled in the school’s Family and Consumer Science class recently learned how to knit and have been mastering the art of knitting the perfect hat.
For the second year, the students have participated in a knitting project that produced over 250 child sized hats as small as newborn to be donated to sick children treated at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
Bryan Sarandrea, Hicksville Supervisor of Social Studies and Home and Careers, said “Authentic learning experiences such as this are great opportunities for students to demonstrate creativity and care for others
The enthusiasm shown by students while working on this project is an inspiration to the school community.”
Hicksville Middle School students have knitted over 250 winter hats to donate to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park through a service-learning project.
