Hicksville High School’s Repertory Company recently took the stage to present Legally Blonde The Musical to enthusiastic audiences during two evening performances on March 14 and 15 in the school’s Charles “Chuck” Arnold Theatre.

The Hicksville Congress of Teachers recently organized its annual Read Across America Virtual Event. Led by Hicksville High School Librarian Christine Anderson, the event took place in the high school library and via Google Meet, where teachers, district administrators, and Board of Education members read children's books to students across the district's seven elementary schools.

Students at Fork Lane Elementary in Hicksville recently enjoyed an engaging, interactive experience with Rhythms of the Americas, a bilingual assembly that highlighted the influence of Latin American music and culture, emphasizing the importance of embracing cultural diversity through dance and performance.

Suhani Sharma has won the Shanti Fund Artwork and Writing Contest, and her work will be featured in the Shanti Fund’s 2025-26 Calendar.

Hicksville High School Principal Raymond Williams with Just Poetry Competition Winner Pratheeksha Ganesh. The Hicksville nineth grader is one of 30 national winners of the national high school poetry contest.

Hicksville Middle School eighth graders recently attended an assembly featuring Addiction Research Scientist Dr. Stephen Dewey speaking on the science of addiction.

Fourth-grade students at Dutch Lane Elementary School in Hicksville recently participated in an immersive, hands-on program called “Journeys into American Indian Territory.”

Nineteen Hicksville High School students attended this year’s New York State Theatre Education Association (NYSTEA) Student Conference that was held the weekend of Jan. 10 – 12 at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, NY. NYSTEA is a strong, statewide organization of theatre educators, promotes and supports theatre education for students in grades pre-K through 12.

Students at Lee Avenue School in Hicksville recently participated in a cereal food drive that ran over the last three weeks collecting close to 150 cereal boxes.

At the Jan. 22 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton began his report by acknowledging 18 outstanding students for the following accolades: a National Merit Semifinalist, National Merit Commended Students and those recognized through the College Board National Recognition Program.

First grade students at Old Country Road Elementary School in Hicksville celebrated this year’s Lunar New Year, Year of the Snake, with a parade around the school. The students also enjoyed making hats, masks and lanterns to celebrate the occasion.

Hicksville Middle School students recently recognized the Year of the Snake by making lucky cat decorations, designing snakes and lanterns in honor of this year’s Lunar New Year. Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures. This event fostered understanding and respect for the rich and diverse cultures seen at Hicksville Middle School.

At the Dec. 18 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton began his report by highlighting six outstanding students including New York State PTA Contest Winner Insiya Ali, four NYSSMA All-State participants Owen Chan, Matthew Kilfeather-Bonello, Lauren Mason and John Ryan Chaplin, and the 2024 District Holiday Card Winner, Julian Gandolfo.

Dutch Lane Elementary students in Hicksville recently had a visit from The New York Islanders for a special school assembly. The Islanders School Assembly stresses the importance of making smart decisions, eating healthy, staying active as well as treating others with respect. During the interactive assembly, the team mascot Sparky and members of the Islander Community Relations team shared with students why being committed to making smart decisions is important in school and life.

South Asian style of dance come alive during their visit on Jan. 6. The interactive performances showcased movement and dance and kept students engaged while teaching them about the culture of India.

This year, the district’s annual holiday card contest spotlighted the creativity of high school students. The 2024 winning design was created by 11th-grader Julian Gandolfo in Ms. Andolina’s Advanced Graphic Design class.

Hicksville High School welcomed 70 guest speakers as part of Career Day Inc. on Dec. 6. Career Day Inc. is a day-long program that connects students with a variety of professionals to get them thinking about their future career choices.

Hicksville High School students Evan Chun, Om Doshi, Alyssa Garger and Aashritha Kilambi were named Commended Students as part of the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Hicksville High School is excited to congratulate Kim Widjaja for being named a National Merit Semifinalist in the 70th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The Hicksville senior is among approximately 16,000 semifinalists selected nationally from an estimated 1.3 million who entered the academic competition upon taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors.

Recently, the Lee Avenue Elementary School PTA sponsored a Scholastic Book Fair, where students could explore and purchase some of their favorite reads. This is one of two book fairs the PTA hosts for the students throughout the school year. The next one will be held in the spring.

Hicksville Middle School students recently enjoyed spending time during their lunch period participating in a Connect Four Tournament. In December, students will have the opportunity to play chess during a lunchtime Chess Challenge against fellow classmates as well as the school’s leadership team.

Burns Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville held a mini marathon on Nov. 15 around the school’s back field to get the students moving and hearts pumping. Students, staff and some family members join in the fun while others cheered from the sidelines around the makeshift run route.

At the Nov. 20 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton began his report by highlighting several outstanding students including this year’s valedictorian, Kailash Thayavally, salutatorian, Mandeep Kaur and three students in the district’s college level American Sign Language class, Riley Blitz, Sanaa Haroon and Kylie McLaughlin.

Reading and AIS students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Old Country Road had an exciting field trip on Monday, November 4th. They visited the Canstruction Long Island exhibit at RXR Plaza in Uniondale. It is a display of structures made from canned foods. The best part is that the cans are donated to feed families all over Long Island.

Hicksville Middle School students had fun during a recent lunch period in the school’s Maker Space decorating Halloween crafts with fellow classmates and Assistant Principal Vinh Nguyen-Horan. More organized lunchtime craft activities and games are planned for the months ahead with other members of the school’s leadership team.

Hicksville High School is proud to announce the top two students for the Class of 2025. Congratulations to valedictorian Kailash Thayavally and salutatorian Mandeep Kaur. Both have contributed significantly inside and outside of their school community.

At the Oct. 23 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton highlighted board members for their continued dedication and commitment to the district and community in honor of School Board Recognition Week.

Old Country Road Elementary students in Hicksville recently took part in a special “Box Out Bullying” assembly where they learned to confront bullying through a live interactive theater performance. The performance made the students laugh, cheer and think.

Students, staff and families of Old Country Road Elementary’s school community came together to celebrate International Night hosted by the school’s PTA on September 27. Teachers, students and their families gathered around the outdoor blacktop to showcase their cultures in various ways.

Hicksville Middle School students in Laura Amundsen’s Family and Consumer Science class recently made playdough. In addition to learning to work in the kitchen, the project is also teaching the students how to be good citizens by donating the playdough to the district’s Pre-K classes to enjoy.

At the September 18 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton highlighted Hicksville High School students Haley Gonzales and Kimberly Widjaja. Both students were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the Hicksville School Community.

Students at Old Country Road Elementary School in Hicksville recognized Patriots Day on Sept. 11 by wearing red, white and blue to show their appreciation for their heroes.

Hicksville School District welcomed back students for the 2024-2025 school year on September 3. Students arrived at their schools, eager to meet their new teachers and classmates. The energy and excitement of the new school year was felt throughout the day. The district wishes all students and staff a successful school year!

On August 21 and August 27, Hicksville Public Schools welcomed 20 new faculty members for the 2024-25 school year for two days of learning and training prior to beginning their careers with the district.

Hicksville Public Schools welcomed three new administrators, Dr. Catherine Carella- Dean, ELA, Reading and Library Supervisor, Dr. Teresa McGrath, Interim Science, Social Studies, Home and Careers Supervisor and Christopher Uccellini, Principal at Lee Avenue Elementary School for the 2024-25 school year. The three each bring unique experiences to their roles that will support the academic, social and emotional needs of the Hicksville students.
