Hicksville students and staff throughout the district observed Patriot Day on Sept. 11 in a variety of meaningful ways to remember, honor and stand together in unity.

At Hicksville High School, students heard from volunteer speaker Lorraine Meehan, representing the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Institute. Meehan shared her personal experience and reflections with students, providing an opportunity for them to learn about the events of that day through a firsthand account.

At Hicksville Middle School, students participated in social studies lessons using educational materials from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. These lessons provided students with an opportunity to explore the historical significance of Sept. 11 and reflect on its lasting impact.

At each of the district’s seven elementary schools, classes read age-appropriate books related to the day’s theme, followed by meaningful activities focused on courage, heroism and resilience.
