Telling Our Story: Dutch Lane Elementary

One of four “sister” schools opened in 1952 to address Hicksville’s population boom – Burns, Dutch, Fork and Old Country Road – Dutch Lane has a rich history of being integral to the community and holding tight to those who have passed through its doors. “One example of our deep, long lasting relationships at Dutch is our current PTA President, Mrs. Weih,” said Principal Janine Rossi. “Amazingly, the family has had someone attending the school every year since it opened its doors in 1952.”

Tucked away on a quiet side street is Burns Avenue, one of Hicksville School District’s seven elementary schools. Opened in 1952 on close to ten acres of land, the school was one of dozens built across Long Island to serve the burgeoning post-WWII population explosion.

We Welcome Our Newest Teachers!

The newest members of the faculty enjoyed two days of training and acclimation to the district, beginning with a warm welcome from Superintendent of Schools, Marianne Litzman, followed by introductions given by Assistant Superintendent for Personnel, Rosemarie Coletti.
